Find your dream furniture piece using Ebay local search
As mentioned in a previous article, Ebay can be a good place to look for used furniture bargains. Though it is fun to get out and browse antique stores and resale shops, the internet can also be used to find that dream piece of furniture or Antiques Roadshow masterpiece.
The first question that comes to mind when purchasing a large item on Ebay is packaging. This is where new products have such an extreme advantage over used products. Generally speaking, manufacturers have quite sturdy corrugated packaging providing a box to facilitate distribution and reduce the chance of damage. The insides of the cardboard box have sturdy Styrofoam further protecting the piece of furniture which can also be covered in plastic in its entirety to offer more protection.
This is where the second hand purchases can be tricky. If I find something that I like, how can I get it to my house? Further, what will the cost be in shipping it to my home?
There is probably a reasonable distance where you can pick up the item yourself or hire a moving service to pick up the item. A handy tip in Ebay is to use the "Items within ____ miles of _____" feature when performing searches for furntiture products. The two blanks allow you to enter how many MILES away from your ZIP CODE. This is a great way to narrow down the search results to what is a reasonable distance from your house. The Ebay Zip Code Search feature can be found underneath the header for "Search Options".
