If you enjoy the ambiance of glass in your house, here are two great furniture pieces by designer Gae Aulenti. The Appia console table was created in 1984 for Zanotta. The Tavolino coffee table was created for Fontana Arte in 1982. These pieces show Aulenti's passion for working with glass and are great examples of contemporary design.

Tour Table by Gae Aulenti

Talk about wheeling around the house. The tour table by Gae Aulenti really has wheels. This coffee table was designed in 1993 for Fontana Arte. I am not sure that this will fit the décor in your house, but you have to admit it's a conversation piece. Don't sell that old bicycle yet, you can maybe make something out of it.

Ecologically Friendly Furniture from Knu

KNU DESK ECOLOGICAL GREEN FURNITURE

Looking for furniture from an environmentally conscious manufacturer? Make sure that you look into Knu Furniture. Knu's mission is sustainable contemporary furniture. Here is a privacy screen and a bookcase from their product line.Sustainably harvested wood comes from protected, regulated forests; ensuring ecosystems aren't impacted by the loss of trees and that replanting occurs after harvesting. The basic tenet is that the amount of goods and services yielded from a forest should be at a level the forest is capable of producing without degrading the soil, watershed features or seed source for the future. Knu offsets 100% of its carbon emissions and utilizes energy efficient technology to mitigate the amount of energy required in manufacturing.

Gilbert Rhode Dining Chair and Table Set

Gilbert Rohde Dining Chairs Table Set

Here is an early formal dining chair and table set designed by Gilbert Rohde in 1933. Rohde was a modernist that drew inspiration from the simplicity of Bauhaus design. He combined that simplicity with the flair of Art Deco. Gilbert Rhode designed many modern pieces for Herman Miller in the 1930s. The set pictured here was from an auction lot that sold in Chicago in 2002 for $2,900. This same style chair is found in many furniture stores today.

Metal Bed with a Nature Theme

Tree Bed

Ever want to wake up out in nature, well here is the closest thing to it while taking advantage of the comforts of the good old indoors. From Shawn Lovell Metal Works comes the Tree Bed. This steel creation will surely be a conversation piece if nothing else. Shawn Lovell also makes two other beds with a more linear frame and candles on each of the four bed posts. There are a lot of really great designs in the other categories they make including gates, tables and chairs, fire screens, and trellises. I especially like the smooth flowing curves and the nature theme the whole furniture line exhibits.
