A bloggers review on Santa Fe homes
![]()
I just got back from vacation in Santa Fe, New Mexico where a family member lives. This relative has a great home in Santa Fe. The property is on a side of a mountain at 7,400 feet elevation. This house has over ten acres of land with it so there are some other homes nearby, but not too close.
The first thing that comes to mind about homes in Santa Fe is the prevalence of the stucco / adobe look. There are very few traditional brick or wooden homes. The colors of the adobe vary from light tan to medium colored browns. The interesting thing is that the color spectrum is rather small. Thus, when you walk around the city of Santa Fe all the businesses and homes seem to blend together nicely. I am use to having some crazy neighbor that puts something out that distinguishes their home often to the chagrin of the other home owners.
Santa Fe, New Mexico has a dry climate where a typical year may only have ten inches of rainfall. Water is a precious resource that is watched closely by the government. As a result most homes don't have green grassy yards. More common is that the ground is in its natural state with rock, sand and native grasses. Some homes had small flower beds that contained native plants that can survive the arid climate.
Another feature in Santa Fe homes is a deck or patio. New Mexico has a record number of days of sunshine with limited cloud cover. The skies were beautiful blue when I was out there. The lack of humidity made being outdoors a real joy. The evenings and early mornings were much cooler. At night time the temperature drops a great deal giving you the chance to enjoy all types of weather in a single day.
