I am impressed to say the least with Besana of Italy and their glamorous furniture and wardrobe collections. The Italians do things with a flair that seems to be indigenous to their homeland and their high level of pride and craftsmanship. One piece that caught my eye was the Fly sideboard with its hypnotic door fronts made of teak woof mitered at 45 degree angles that seems to float on minimal metal feet. Tarcisio Colzani's design includes beveled door handles and matchbook veneers that keep the face of the Fly sideboard free of clutter and your eyes glued to it.
Pleasant memories of my childhood include some great moments like the first bedroom set I got when I was about six. It was really cool and my friends we all so impressed. I guess it was the pride in having a place to call my own that mad it so special. Lea Industries knows what kids like and have an awesome series of childrens furniture including bunk beds, storage units, study desks, and much more targeted specifically for boys and girls. Often so many companies make childrens furniture unisex with a one set fits all design, but that is definitely not the case with Lea Industries. Colors, details, and great design are all part of what you can expect in a room your child will never forget.
When you combine the vision of designer Marcel Wanders and new age materials, they give way to some outstanding products. The Crochet Chair is unlike anything ever produced and evokes stares and admiration from all who see it. The resin and fiber construction allow a durable yet very light look that seems far to elegant to be furniture. The Marcel Wanders Personal Editions are quite an impressive series of delicate hand painted and hand crafted statues, lamps, and larger pieces like chests and side boards with an unmistakably intricate detail. One of my favorite collection Wanders designed are the Boutique sofa groups for Moooi that proves how different the same basic item can look when dressed up with contrasting fabrics. Fun, exciting, and different, the Moooi Boutique collection of sofas is all the above. Moooi also offers four styles of feet including two metal and two wood options to fit your moood or décor requirements. Cassina furniture of Italy proves once again that less is more. The La Rotonda round dining table from designer Mario Bellini has a minimal and elegant beauty with optional wood or glass tops and a variety of wood finishes to choose from. The simple nature of the table gives the owner a wide variety of options easily combining La Rotonda with wood or leather dining chairs. The Cassina collection is divided into the "contemporanei" series with all original modern works featuring some of today's leading designers, and the "Cassina I Maestri" collection which includes some of the most important furniture created by leading figures in the Modern Movement, pieces which have since become landmarks in the evolution of contemporary design.
When it comes to Danish Modern furniture there is one name comes to mind as the father of the movement, and that's Hans J. Wegner. Hans started his studio in 1943 and enjoyed much success and accolades as one of the worlds most renowned designers specializing in chairs. In 1960 Wegner released his soon to be famous CH445 Wingchair in limited quantities. In 2006 Carl Hansen & Sons dusted off the blue prints and reintroduced the lounge chair to immediate success and awards at the IMM in Cologne, and the Copenhagen International Furniture Fair that same year. Today the wingchair is what Hans Wegner envisioned it to be and then some reaching true furniture icon status and a place in the homes and hearts of modern furniture lovers world wide. According to Carl Hansen & Sons "we have worked with Wegner's original drawings and some of the few pieces that remain from the sixties, when a smaller number of them were produced by hand. And we're proud to say that we have upheld the original construction and materials - including solid beech frames and hand-sewn piping - just the way that Wegner designed it." If you want furniture that will last in not only quality of construction, but style as well, the licensed modern classics are the way to go.
Sure most of the classic leather wing back chairs are produced by traditional companies that specialize in that style of furniture. Natuzzi who is known for modern and transitional furniture has a few traditional pieces like the Samuel wing back chair that carries all the quality you would expect from a classic staple in leather seating. The Samuel has a slightly modernized look free of tufts and nail heads that still sports traditional traits like roll arms, and a broad upright shape that leads to the winged back. Natuzzi makes a few really great traditional leather sofas and chaise lounges that are perfect to pair with the Samuel chair in a multitude of leather colors and grades.
Designer Thomas Pedersen got his inspiration for the Stingray rocking chair from a stingray moving across a seabed. This modern interpretation of the age old favorite tastefully combines the old and new for a floating rendition from Fredericia Furniture. A slight steel construction supports a shell like vacuum suctioned plastic which is available in black or white from DANSKDESIGN. 120cm width, 100cm depth and 80 cm heigh. 9757KR or $1850 US
You probably already know the name Natuzzi, and possibly that they are the world's largest leather furniture manufacturer founded in the 1950's. In more recent times Natuzzi furniture has expanded their product line to include a full offering of lamps, rugs, wall units, decorative accessories, and coffee table groups to tastefully compliment their upholstery line. The Natuzzi concept is one of the most stunning collections of modern furniture that really blends for a complete package that takes out any guess work. The Durini three level wall unit offers storage, shelving for decorative accessories, and space for a nice size flat panel television.
