Eco-entrepreneur Henrik Marstrand founded Mater, a Copenhagen based high end home accessory design company in 2006 which debuted at Maison et Objet fair in Paris in 2007. The company philosophy embraces ecological and ethical business practices that support people, local craft traditions and the environment. A team of gifted designers follow a vision that works to create timeless and beautiful home accessories form specialized materials. Two of my favorites include the marblewood collection made from black or white Jaipur marble or Indian hard wood sourced through official government auctions in India. The second are these ergonomically angled chopsticks made from stainless steel with bamboo nesting block inspired by a Japanese oki table setting. The entire collection of Mater produces is very refined and includes cutlery, candle holders, vases, and more.
Some things never go out of style, and famed designer George Nelson had a special vision that will carry on far into the future. Nelson's "Bubble Lamps" designed in 1947 and released in 1950 by Howard Miller are back in full production thanks to Modernica who now makes them exclusively to the exact original specifications. The Bubble Lamp series which is featured in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York is available in hanging, floor, table, or sconce models for application in every part of your home or business.
As an uncle and blogger I am always on the lookout for products that would be suitable for my nephew. I follow furniture regularly and as most of you are aware, lead paint and harmful additives in general, are a concern in the world today.
We love providing great pictures of innovative and classic products for our readers. A picture is truly worth a 1,000 words. There are limits though. Many product lines often do not have great pictures which we consume as readers with enthusiasm. One such area is in nursery and children's furniture. One such product caught my eye today from Liapela modern baby. A toddler bed from Petra made me think of my nephew. The Petra toddler bed has a classic modern look and is available in birch, white, walnut, red maple and cherry for $395. The bed is recommended from 15 months up to 50 lbs. Side rails are detachable providing a nice feature for parents. Mattress support is ventilated and can accommodate a standard crib sized mattress or a foam mattress. I found the $395 price to be reasonable for a toddler bed. You could use the same mattress from the crib to provide your child some stability as he/she transitions away from the crib.

Designer Peter Maly manages to incorporate some attractive elements used on a daily basis into his "Balance" fireplace with help from Conmoto, a progressive manufacturer in the field of stoves and fireplaces. The concept of the Balance is centered around the structural unit of the fireplace oven which can be assembled in a variety of ways. The hand-crafted chests of drawers, shelving units, benches and firewood containers are made from American walnut or oak blend with the horizontal lines that can go on as long as you have room.
