Having made it all the way from the early days of the modern furniture movement, the Wassily chair designed by Marcel Breuer in 1925 has surly graced just about every setting possible. Here is the mid-century classic in a mach up of the VERDIER solar powered light caravan that some of us may recognize as the VW bus gone hi-tech. If you are going to decorate in timeless furniture the Wassily chair is a staple that apparently works well as outdoor patio furniture. Two things that are sure to be popular in the future, alternate power sources and classic modern furniture.
Matthias Pliessnig is an artist that continues to challenge us with what is wood versus what is furniture. His latest designs are stimulating wooden benches woven by hand using oak and ash. The detail of these works reminds me of hand-crafted wicker where the meticulous pattern of weaving creates intricate detail. In this case, however, we are talking about shaping hardwoods as opposed to wicker which is an amazing feat.
