One of the featured attractions at this year's SALONE INTERNAZIONALE DEL MOBILE in Milan will be the modern furniture collection of Bontempi Casa, definitely one of my favorites. The Barone and Barone Allungabile round and expandable dining tables shows their simple yet snazzy approach to modern furniture with a obvious Italian flair. To mix things up Bontempi offers the Barone dining tables in a variety of bases including leather wrapped, lacquered steel, or chrome with contrasting glass tops in various colors and finishes. Every year the Australian International Design Awards pay homage to those innovative designs and inventions that represent design excellence and make our lives better. This year's entries include two modern kitchen appliances from German manufacturer Miele that represent the future of convection and steam cooking around the world. Here are the two entries which include the Miele Combi Steam Cooker and Miele's 90 cm Pyrolytic Oven, touted as "the best oven in the world". I being into the aesthetics can't help but notice the cool modern look which always makes things more acceptable.

Exercise equipment in the home is often a catch 22. Sure we all need it, but it takes up a ton of space. Adjustable dumbells are a great accessory if you plan to have a weight training area. My wife and I have owned two sets of "PowerBlocks" for about 4 years now. I own a set that varies in weight from 5-50 lbs. whereas hers varies from 3-24 lbs. These adjustable dumbells are made by the PowerBlock company. A quick review is that they are very easy to use. There is a pin that can be pulled out and placed back into the set to change the weight amount. It only takes a few seconds to accomplish the weight change. It is a good idea to go ahead and purchase a stand as an extra option. We originally did not get the stand, but went back the next day and purchased one. Each April, the design world and furniture buyers set their sights on this highly coveted event in hopes of making a great impression on the design community or finding something really special for their retail market. In years past some big names like Moooi, Established & Sons, Magis, and Cappellini have left a lasting impression with furniture designs that have taken modern interior design into the 21st century with a renewed sense of creativity.
