It is always fun to find great concepts in design that make living easier. Flipt living room chairs fall into this category. First off, this is great looking modern furniture that adds elegance to any room. I am always drawn to this sleek design and its minimal roots as it tends not to over power the decorating balance in a room. The great feature of Flipt is that it is two chairs in one. You can have it extended out as a lounge chair or fold it back onto itself so it is just a regular chair. This clever design was created by Jeff Miller. I do like the yellow and white colors and how they play when the chair is folded back or in its extended position. With space being so limited in many big cities, living room chairs that can be multi-functional like Flipt are great ideas. More information: here.

Here is a taste of a few new releases from designer, Jeff Miller. These two versions feature storage shelving where inspiration is drawn from the Plato cube. These models are oversized in comparison to the original Plato cube, but still provide the inspirational feel of the original release. I have provided two pictures of the original piece as a point of comparison. I like how the new arrangement uses a variety of shapes and colors to craft a more artistic image of the shelving unit. The Beehive is an arrangement of bookcases and shelves that is shaped like a honeycomb. This shape is probably known universally to man as it is associated immediately with the honey bee. Each piece is a hexagon that is that is arranged in a clever format to create an overall "object d'art" appearance in a room. There is detail inside each shape where the material is a thinner creating the feel of a honeycomb. Probably created more for its interior design appeal rather than raw storage, Beehive creates an interesting backdrop for any room. You can find out more about Beehive from Dar en Art here.
Here is a recent entry at the Milan Furniture Fair by o4i. This piece is called the Diagonal that is being offered by Martela, a Finnish Furniture company. The driving force behind the sofa design is the great need for being flexible when it comes to designing seating for public places. The pictures present a striking array of possibilities in how Diagonal can be put together. An interesting fact is that Diagonal's core essence comes down to two basic pieces: a padded seat and a screen. These two pieces can be arranged however needed to suit the situation. I like that the essence of the design is so basic and yet flexible in how it can suit our ever changing needs in furniture for public places. More information: here.

SchwimmHausBoot has sent over their latest design called "Silberfisch" which takes a houseboat to a modern extreme. Inspiration for the project comes from the limited availability of residential space in most large cities. With that in mind it makes sense to make use of waterways as potential living spots. Here in the United States, houseboat rentals are popular in vacation areas where lakes are common. Is it feasible to have a waterfront property in a major city? That could happen in the future.
