Karton Chair from German Designer Florian Kallus

Furniture Fashion recently heard from Florian Kallus, a German Designer living in Münster, Germany. He wrote to share his latest work called "Karton". The design is inspired by the coziness of a carton, a creation that all of us in the world are familiar with. There is a lot of symbolism in a cardboard box in how we compartmentalize our lives and store away good and bad memories. This adoption into furniture is constructed of multiplex plate coated in white oil oak edge with Viskoseschaum black cowhide. More information: here.

Mid-Century Eames Storage Unit for $3,400

Definitely one of the iconic pieces from the Mid-Century design era, the visual on the Eames storage unit says it all. Even for non-fans of modern design, there is still a recognizable air to the furniture. The first take is the play on colors and how their culmination creates a superb visual appeal. The storage types are pieced together in a patchwork manner, but in truth reveal the genius behind Charles and Ray Eames' design from 1950. This piece is offered by the MOMA store for $3,400 and can be purchased here.

Architect Peter Zumthor : 2009 Pritzker Prize Winner

This years Pritzker Prize winner, the highest recognition in architecture, is Swiss architect Peter Zumthor. This amazing architect is not the most well known name in his field, and he has remained in "relative obscurity" for most of his 30 year career. I am sure winning this high honor will shed some much deserved light on his projects which include mountain side chapels, and spas in and around the European countryside. One of Zumthor's works that I find particularly intriguing is the Kolumba Art Museum in Cologne completed in 2007 which rises out of the ruins of the late gothic St. Kolumba Church, destroyed in World War II. The Pritzker jury called the project "a startling contemporary work, but also one that is completely at ease with its many layers of history." Here is a look at some of Peter Zumthor's architecture that won him the 2009 Pritzker Prize.
