A chair is perhaps one of the simplest concepts that allow us as human beings to relax. Though they are some of the oldest and simplest objects mankind has designed, some designers have thrown out even the basic concept of the chair in lieu of more unique modern thinking as these examples show.
SK Fishbone Chair
This sculptural wooden chair features vertical slats that make a strange statement and looks something like a cartoon fish skeleton. Designer Nicolas Marzouanlian developed this eco-friendly indoor or patio chair to be a purist piece of furniture making it without the use of glue or screws.

Red furniture makes such a statement in a room that it often steals the show in interior design. This fun armchair makes a furniture statement with a capital "S" and it fittingly called "S Armchair" due to its shape. The red upholstered chair is the brainchild of dsigner, Aziz Sanyer. Via.
Recently the second "One Good Chair" competition sponsored by the World Market Center, Las Vegas, Markets Living Green Pavillion, and the Sustainable Furniture Council was conducted and some really innovative entries were presented from all corners of the world.
The winner this year was the Charity Chair by Designer Andrej Blazon that was inspired by the coronet worn by the Daughters of Charity. The Charity lounge chair "is conceived in such a way that the fabrication can be extremely low-tech, keeping energy consumption to a minimum. Use of recycled/recyclable materials can be applied to conserve earth's resources allowing production from any flexible material with sufficient rigidity is possible, ranging from hard rubber, plastic, or metal sheets. The chair consists of a single flat rectangular sheet of material curved to the final form locked to position with means of cut-in slits/flaps so no hardware is needed".
