The Karuselli rocking chair with optional ottoman relies on the pivot point under the arm to do its rocking. Therefore swiveling is still an option thanks to a center post base which supports a rather stylish seat shell made from white or black fiberglass. The Karuselli rocking and swiveling armchair designed Yrjö Kukkapuro in 1964 is made by Avarte of Finland and features a chromed steel spring and rubber dampers that connect the seat shell to base. The Relax Furniture Design Competition hosted by Yanko Designs yielded some outstanding and innovative designs from a host of up and coming young talent. This years winner was Nick Trincia who's "Fluid Rocker" impressed the judges with a smooth flowing shape accentuated by it's one piece fiberglass construction and bold high gloss finish. According to Trincia "I strive to create highly useful and beautiful objects. Gathering inspiration through observation, I solve problems through forms that function". The soft curves and ergonomic form "make it as inviting to look at as it is to sit in" and the top surface is wrapped in felt, an element that has been making it's way into furniture design a lot in recent times.
