Here is a most unusual collection of modern chairs from Erik Griffioen who put emphasis on shape first, then material. As you walk around these chairs, they seem to change their shape says Griffioen: "My work has to be exciting from every angle, have character, beauty and quality, and most of all: it has to be comfortable." His chairs and couches invite you to view them from all sides. Griffioen's first chair was a theme piece that characterized the passing of time and her invisible erosion on all that seems eternal and the role of man in this process. The special chair was made from translucent amber colored rubber and is still being developed but its design is the blueprint for all chairs Erik Griffioen has made up until now. See the rest of the truly unique chairs, sofas, and lounge chairs by Erik Griffioen here.

This year at the Stockholm Furniture Fair, Fritz Hansen released their latest chair design from Japanese designer Hiromichi Konno. The HK10 "Rin Chair" is the next Danish Modern "icon hopeful" that is also in harmony with Japanese design traditions. The Rin Chair fits right in with the long history of mid-century modern furniture from Fritz Hansen that has some familiar characteristics like a circular shape and a minimal base structure. Upon graduating from product design from Umea University in Sweden, Konno worked with design great Ross Lovegrove and helped create the Go Chair for Bernhardt Design. The classic modern Rin Chair features an injection-molded shell available in six colors. See the entire collection of outstanding Danish modern chair designs from Fritz Hansen here.
