The recent Furniture Fashion post on the acrylic furniture of Aaron R Thomas made me think of the Magino Coffee Table designer Karim Rashid did for Umbra. The simply shaped coffee table also doubles as a magazine rack and is a nice light alternative to the typical heavy center piece especially if you have a small space or an area rug you would like to keep in view. There is also a matching barstool. Made from clear Lucite formed acrylic. 39" L x 17" W x 15.75" H $770 Ships in 1 - 2 weeks from PlushPod.com

My readers know that I like minimal things as it is a challenge to make our lives simpler. This minimal coffee table offers simplicity and book storage all in one piece of furniture. I like this piece first off due to its minimalism. Now of course it can come in more colors and finishes to match it to any living room. The other thing I find interesting is its size. Pictured here it is almost a stand-alone piece of furniture next to the sofa. Due to its size, this table could work behind a sofa, in front of a sofa, along a wall, or even as a TV stand. The storage compartment underneath is a neat place for books or other objects that you may want to keep there. Product information: here.

Designers Okamura & Marquardsen appropriately named this ultra modern coffee table the "Avocado". I like it for several reasons. It has a great look, it is nice and compact, and I could probably prop my feet up on the circular black pad making it a combination ottoman. The Avocado is made in Copenhagen, Denmark by Jorgen Christiansens Snedkeri A/S which will celebrate their 100 anniversary in 2010. It is obvious that this is one Danish modern manufacturer that puts a lot of emphasis on the modern despite their age.See the rest of the JC Snedkeri A/S collection here.

Here is another modern furniture release from Munich based designer Matthias Demacker that will debut at the IMM Cologne Furniture Fair this year. The Moon Table is a collaboration with Seefelder and is produced in chromed or lacquered steel tube, with table tops made from scratch resistant powder coated MDF in white and black, matt or high gloss finishes. The set of tables can be arranged and used separately or overlapped, "an abstract symbol for the individual phases of the moon- a clear allusion on the symbolism of the Yin & Yang". If you like the Moon Table you will like the rest of the Seefelder modern furniture collection with a distinctly European flair.

Here is a clever idea for a small table that is also a magazine holder. The simple design fits standard sized magazines in its base snugly creating an organized look to the magazine stack. Many of us have magazines as part of a hobby or our line of work. This solution gives a place to keep them nearby and yet present them in a more fashionable way. The small table is constructed of laser cut steel measuring 4 mm. Colors available include: white, silver, and charcoal. Designer: Pol Quadens. More information: here.
