Home Remodeling : 1875 Denver Colorado Schoolhouse

Taking an old building and reshaping it into a modern living space is no small feat. What you see here is a schoolhouse from 1875 that resides outside of Denver, Colorado. Now the owners of the property had a vision of transforming the building into a home while balancing the amazing history of the building. I am particular fond of restoration projects and this one just appears amazing. The inside has been completely reworked. The pristine floors in no way indicate the original age of the structure. The kitchen and living areas look like new construction, frankly. I can imagine the difficult lifestyle on the frontier of Colorado in 1875, but the insides now look like modern bliss. Colorado Home Pictures with an Industrial Construction Theme

These Colorado home pictures show the Crowder House designed by Faleide Architects of Denver. What's interesting about this home is its strong industrial theme. Where many of us might be thinking mountain cabins or lodges, the Crowder House draws its inspiration from concrete panel construction combined with metal. Often the ceilings reveal trusses and general steel work where its structural strength becomes a design statement. I also find the stairs and hand rails to be very interesting. The stairs feature metal steps with holes for traction. The hand rails compliment the steps offering its own metal work in a nice designer's flair. There is one room where the floors and ceilings blend in an interesting concept. The fixtures in the ceiling are matched by round accents in the floor to create a unique feel in the room. Though the overall feel of these Colorado home pictures may not be as warm as the mountain lodge, if you appreciate industrial construction there are some clever takeaways here. Casa Segrada - New Mexico House Blending Asian and Southwestern Architecture

Casa Segrada was a project by Archaeo Architects where they faced a unique challenge. The family was creating a New Mexico house on a 20 acre heavily wooded lot. Their goal was to keep as many of the trees as possible to preserve the natural landscape. The challenge of building on a rocky hillside was a big factor in the footprint and shape. Additionally, the family wanted to combine Asian and Southwestern architecture in way that flowed with the New Mexico lifestyle. Archaeo drew inspiration from traditional Japanese folk house design using a pitched roof and hand crafted wood joinery. The views are breathtaking from the home as is the thought of lounging on the porch with the dogs. Source: Archaeo Architects.

Incredible Hotels : Silken Hotel Puerta America in Madrid

When it comes to deluxe hotel accommodations that feature state of the art architecture, interior design, and modern furniture and lighting, there is one place that harmoniously combines these elements in one breath taking place. The Silken Hotel Puerta America in Madrid completed in 2005 called on the talents of well known designers like Foster and Partners, Zaha Hadid, Chipperfield, Jean Nouvel, Arata Isozaki, Ron Arad, and John Pawson to uniquely create each floor and room, giving free rein to their creativity in the development. Plasma Studio previously featured in a Furniture Fashion post was commissioned to do the 4th floor of this incredibly detailed and extremely creative hotel. I hope you enjoy the pictures, and possibly even spend a few days in this stunning hotel the next time you are in Spain.

Outstanding Modern Architecture by Plasma Studio of London

Modern architecture takes on two drastically differing forms for the designers and architects of London's Plasma Studio led by founders Eva Castro and Holger Kehne who work in conjunction with their second undertaking in Sesto near Bolzano, Italy, lead by partner Ulla Hell. In London "the multicultural staff is immersed in a fast-moving, diverse and urban culture, whereas in Bolzano- an area of outstanding natural beauty and strong local crafts tradition- the work is developed from engaging with nature, the landscape and local materials".
