Known as the Malibu 5 project from Kanner Architects, this stunning Malibu home embodies many of today's accepted design practices. Construction materials consist of environmentally friendly and recycled materials. The house is vertically stacked in a hillside in Malibu, California with an amazing view of the Pacific Ocean. The home minimizes energy use through large solar protected windows which limit the need for artificial lighting. The roof harbors photovoltaic solar panels to harvest the sun's energy. Ground level concrete floors act as heat sinks pulling energy in during the day and then releasing it at night. Motion sensors ensure that lights are not on while a room is not in use. The results are amazing in that the home is contributing power back to the local grid. This Malibu home has 3,300 square feet, 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Via.

A lot of us may not know much about Malaysia, but this modern home will attest to the country's interest in architecture. This house was a project under taken by Arkitek Axis in Kuala Lumpur, a city north of Singapore. The house plans consist of a 3 story construction plan that is surrounded by water landscaping and a lush pool area. Central to the design is how the bottom level connects to the outdoor areas creating a sensible way in which the family will interact with the house's outdoor surroundings. Via.

The Island of Malta is located just south of Sicily and is viewed as a stepping stone into the African continent. The villa or palazzo, Italian for "private residence", is located in the town of Rabat. Malta is a member of the EU and is accustomed to glitter and stardom having hosted filming for movies such as Gladiator, Count of Monte Cristo, Alexander and U-571. The Malta villa underwent a renovation to update the interiors to a more modern décor and to add important features needed in everyday living such as wi-fi. One sitting room in particular really boasts of bold colors drawing upon the influence of its nearby Tunisian and Libyan neighbors. A special feature is the custom kitchen designed by Antonio Citterio. Via.

This Singapore home remodeling project was submitted by Ong & Ong Architects showcasing their work on the 55 Blair Road property. The design team consisted of Diego Molina, Maria Arango and Camilo Peleaz. In the example they provided wonderful pictures taken by Derek Swalwell to provide details from each room. My two favorite areas in the home are the pool section and the staircase section. The pool is integrated into the home design and features a Century Frangipani tree native to Singapore which brings a sense of peace and reflection to the area. The spiral staircase is set off beautifully with windows on either side creating a visual experience enhanced by the overall white design of the room. Via.
