I do not know about you, but I sure could use a vacation about now. I am thinking something summery with great views, the ocean, and peace and quiet. How about the beauty of the Greek Islands? Pictured here are photos of Cavo Tagoo, a luxury hotel on Mykonos. I am a big fan of Mediterranean style architecture with white washed walls against the backdrop of the ocean. The stairs down from the hotel property create a grand entrance to the waterfront. The inside décor features modern furniture that matches the white theme of the walls. One piece that catches my eye is the rocking chair with aqua colored upholstery. Via.

Here are some interesting architecture photos of a hair salon in Fuiku, Japan designed by architects Takuya Hosokai and Hiromasa Mori. It is interesting how the angle cuts down from the roof towards the ground. This creates a sense of "cutting edge" which is very fitting for a salon business that must keep up with current styles. The white exterior and interior speak volumes about something "new and fresh" which again fits a new hairstyle. The main window area is the cutting station area to bring focus on the core roots of this business. Though this design is set for a commercial business, I wonder how it would prevail as a house design with some slight modifications. I would certainly want some more windows if this was my house plans. Via.

Furniture Fashion has sung the praises of a "less is more" design concept for a long time, and here is the home to surround the furniture we usually talk about. The Ring House by TNA Architects of Japan has a wide open theme with segmented rings as the main structure. The Ring House was designed as a retreat with a 360 degree view of the forest which meant planning the rings and windows at heights that would allow visual access to the outside, as well as hiding undesirable utilitarian features. Take note of the Hans Wegner Wishbone Chair which is one of my favorites and a great choice for a minimalist contemporary décor. Via

Check out this awesome home in San Francisco that really shows a creative side of vertical contemporary architecture. The designers managed to work in a small space and come up with a home that has large spacious rooms and a touch of nature despite its urban surroundings and stark lines. I really like the cut out deck areas that allow a small tree to grow within the homes structure and the striking wood paneling. Inside the modern interior is well lit by the variety of windows in different shapes, some horizontal and very complimentary to the shape of the home. I can really appreciate the minimal furnishings that get to the point but don't over do it.

This modern Chilean country house is constructed primarily of concrete. Though it is a residential place, many of its aspects are similar to commercial design techniques. The high vaulted ceilings create panoramic views of outdoor landscape through long sweeping windows. My favorite element in this house is the grand view created from the windows. Now with an accompanying vineyard, this would be the perfect respite for a busy urbanite. Via.
