Dornbracht creates my idea of the perfect modern bathroom that not only looks great but promotes a wellness concept and "the spirit of water". The Symetrics collection focuses not on the individual series or fitting, but on the bathroom as a whole which opens up new perspectives in bathroom planning. My favorite is the WaterSheet wall mounted cascade bath spout that acts as your own personal water fall, and when combined with the Symetrics RainSky M shower you have created a sanctuary that would be hard to tear yourself away from. Dornbracht even sets the right mood with their new innovative Light Modules systems, which give the bathroom a highly individual flair. The unique Light Modules have been created in conjunction with SIEGER DESIGN and Günter Luther Bathroom Concepts, and are available in various shapes and sizes. See the entire collection of bathroom and mood lighting concepts here.

When it comes to traditional bathroom furniture including sink stands, vanities, and cabinets, Ronbow Bath Furnishings has the best collection I have seen. The Bordeaux series shown here is available with matching wood, marble, or black granite top for a really dressy appearance and care free maintenance. Other features include hand crafted detailed ornamentation, matching finished interiors, and back splash. Not to leave out our modern interior decorators, Ronbow has a vast collection of contemporary and modern bathroom furniture and storage cabinets as well. Bordeaux is available in 36, 48, and 60" widths.

Most of us some day will face the challenge of aging and losing mobility. In an earlier article, Furniture Fashion discussed ADA bathrooms designed for aging in place. The reality for many of us is that we may have to make changes to our homes to accommodate our aging. The good news is that there is still a way to be "chic" and have a bathroom that does not look like it belongs in a hospital. The Auxilium is an example where function and style combine to provide a nice bathroom. First off, I like the white rails as a nice contrast to the typical stainless steel or nickel models. You can see that rails are strategically placed near the toilet, shower, and sink to provide extra stability. I also like the extra bar underneath the sink which can provide a place to hang a towel or a place to rest a cane against. The shower floor is flush with the bathroom floor which provides additional safety as it is not necessary to step into the shower area. The alarming facts are that many people have falls in bathrooms where hips and other bones are broken. The bathroom remains one of the most dangerous places in a home for handicapped individuals or those with limited mobility, but that does not mean that you have to leave style behind. Product: here.

One of the amazing things in bathroom design is the number of situations where a classic set of fixtures can work. There are other areas where a bathroom can be spruced up through the use of colors and accents. Pictured here is the "Crono" line from Olympia. Crono features a white ceramic appeal with stainless steel hardware. All of the fixtures are "right sized" so as to not create an over-balance in a bathroom. Fixtures such as these can work in many situations. More information: here.
