In any home or rental, the closet winds up being a very important room in the organization of our possessions. Typically, I am not stricken by closets and am drawn to the kitchen, living room, and bathroom. I think this is perfectly normal behavior. There is a difference, however, when you live in that property. This is where closets weigh heavily into the overall experience of the home interior. Good closet organization starts with proper accessibility to your clothes, shoes, and accessories. I always enjoy any piece of furniture that can be customized, used as a multi-function piece, or conserve space in the home. The Freedom Bed from ItalyDesign is cool in how it can be customized. The bed rests can be removed from the bed or even placed at different positions around the bed frame. There are also two night stand tables that attach to the frame as well. The tables are detachable as well or can be moved to any position around the bed.
The Freedom bed gives new meaning to people that like to work from their bed! The detachable table would be perfect for a laptop or paperwork that requires attention. I can envision the four bed rests being placed on each side so that children could use them as back rests while playing a board game on the center of the bed. All the bed rests could be removed creating a platform bed look. The look could then be changed by adding the bed rests back making the bed appear more classic in design. The fact is that when you look at a piece like this, the possibilities are limitless.

Featured here is the Felicity Vanity Desk from Thomasville. Felicity can fit into most spaces having only a depth of 25" or a little over two feet. When not in use, the stool can be pushed underneath the vanity to conserve space or be placed elsewhere in the room as occasional seating. The Felicity has three storage drawers and two small compartment drawers on top of the vanity desk. Pictured in nightfall black, the vanity also is available in sunlight cherry finish. The Dream platform bed from Poliform designed by Marcel Wanders has a way of taking on completely different looks. To simply call it a bed does not do it justice. It is a system that actually furnishes the bedroom in an original and personalized way. A series of panels combine to create a headboard that can be customized in different fabrics and colors with or without night stands in a high or low configuration. The Dream bed has an upholstered structure, using the fabric or leather of choice, or a combination of the two. The very untraditional round night table transforms from a unique jar like storage container into a pouf simply by just turning the cover to close it up. Marcel Wanders is one of my favorite furniture designers with a true sense of original style showing very little influence from the "mainstream" market.
Mahogany is by far one of the highest quality woods when it comes to furniture construction. I found some Asian night stands made of mahogany from Tansu.net that caught my eye. First off, I was happy to read where all their wood comes from reclaimed mahogany or from plantation certified timber to ensure continuation of this precious resource. Further, Tansu's products are made by hand and constructed using mortise and tenon joinery techniques. These techniques were employed hundreds of years ago to construct furniture without the use of nails. In today's furniture market, any company offering mortise and tenon joinery techniques typically indicates more expensive furniture due to higher labor costs.
The two night stands featured here are the Africa and the Lotus. Both of these pieces take their design from Asian influence. The Africa combines wood and woven leather to create an exotic look. The Lotus draws upon more traditional Asian roots such as the stain color and the carved image on the front. Both of these pieces carry a moderate price tag for solid mahogany furniture.
