Your bedroom should be the ultimate place for rest and rejuvenation, so create peaceful surroundings that are a nice combination of simplicity and nature. The Kyoto line by Haiku Designs was inspired by the Edo Period of Japan which has been modernized here with a fresh new look. In keeping with the nature theme, the bed is made of ecologically responsible farmed solid mahogany and ergonomically designed individual headboards. The Kyoto is a platform bed and works perfectly with a futon or memory foam mattress for a sleek clean look. Available in Queen, King, or California King with a rich brown stain over mahogany.

Consider this one for the record books. I know this is not furniture any of us will have, or even see for a long time, but here is just the way things are going in this day of technological advancement. Dutch architect Janjaap Ruijssenaars worked for six years to develop this floating black platform using opposing magnets that repel each other to create the world's first floating bed / dining table. Ruijssenaars was inspired by the mysterious monolith in Stanley Kubrick's 1968 cult film 2001: A Space Odyssey. Thin steel cables tether the $1.54 million dollar modern sleeping platform that the designer admits "needs some comfortable bedding", in place. I am holding out for them mass produced version that will significantly drop the price so I can be the first on my block to float to sleep.

Now that you have found the perfect bed, dress it up with a beautiful comforter set or duvet cover. Eastern Accents is the perfect solution for high quality bedding with colors and styles to make your bedroom décor a sanctuary. I really like the stunning detail and selection of fabrics as well as the finishing touches like the cord and fringe that really add a feeling of elegance. The entire collection includes decorative pillows, curtain panels, upholstered headboards, ottomans, and throws for a complete selection of decorating options. My favorite is the Langdon with its stately flair and striking color combinations, it has such a rich look.

Here is a very light and minimal platform bed that makes a very cool statement without a lot of anything. The Bett Tine by designer Raimund Gamerith is part of the Vienna Design Week held thru most of October which showcases the newest contemporary furniture creations from Austria. I especially like the bowed base that breaks from the traditional straight lines setting the design apart from so many other beds. Even though this was my favorite piece, there were a lot of really cool modern furniture designs that are sure to make it in the real world.

Here is a very simple platform bed available from Zoe furniture. If you enjoy a minimalist look, then this may be the right bed for you. I like this bed as I think it is quite functional. Colors could easily be added in the form of pillows, shams, or a comforter to add to the ambiance of your bedroom. Most of all, I think the price is in a reasonable range. Shown in walnut, this ensemble is also available in cherry and wenge veneers. Price: $711
