Thanks to computerized lathe programs and the innovative thinking of German designer Daniel Rohr, the "Colander Dining Table" was hewn from a massive block of aluminum. The Colander table is limited to just 10 and after seeing the video of the steps taken to produce this super cool modern table that features 909 holes and a lustrous buffed finish that is unlike the sharp cutting edges of its namesake. Designer Bodo Sperlein will reveal his shapely Contour Table and Chair at this year's London Design Festival. I find the looping shape rather creative and characteristic of Sperlein's previous works. The chair "exudes a simple elegance, and has been designed to look like a single sculpted sheet. A ribbon-like profile draws the eye effortlessly around a series of loops terminating in slender legs that conceal their true strength". The Contour Table and Chair are available in grey or red lacquer, or Walnut. See the rest of the stylish collection of designs from Bodo Sperlein here. Via The Contemporist

The Montego is a wonderfully crafted round dining table that is made of solid mahogany wood and some veneers on its table top. The furniture weighs 154 lbs. which speaks to its solid construction. I like the flexibility of dining tables that expand like this model. There is an extra leave which adds another 20" making its overall length at 65". There are 7 choices in wood stains to choose from. For $25 you can request a wood swatch so that you can make a more precise decision about the best color for your dining room. The Montego round dining table is a flexible solution for dining rooms seeking a classic look. Price: $1,599. This product is available at Pottery Barn: HERE.

Furniture made from reclaimed wood is perhaps the best of both worlds. Not only do you get an aged and rustic look and feel, but you are being ecologically conscious by consuming recycled lumber. The Darjeeling Dining Table from CB2 is made from Rare Saal wood reclaimed from old Indian railroad ties, restored, and pieced together in a natural mosaic plank. The table tops plank style construction features plugged holes, grain, knots, and seasonal splitting is inherent to most reclaimed wood products. Raw metal legs have grind marks and are finished with clear powder coat. 80"Wx36"Dx29.5"H Seats up to 8 $899.00 From CB2.com

In 1972 Frank Gehry who is well known for exploring with unusual materials in his furniture designs included corrugated cardboard among his uses. The Wiggle Chair and Side Chair are said to be rather simplistic in their design however they are extremely sturdy and durable thanks to Gehry's architectural knowledge. These dining or accent chairs are part of the "Easy Edges" collection which includes edges made of hardboard with natural or lacquered finishes from Vitra. See more from Vitra and Frank O Gehry here.
