The 3 buffet tables in this article come from Gardner Contemporary, a boutique furniture company in Massachusetts. You can see from the styling how they are influenced by European design and in particular Scandinavian furniture. The three pieces are elevated off the floor several inches giving them a softer feel for a dining room. Buffet tables that rest close to the ground can some times act like an anchor in a room and take away the focus from the dining furniture and overhead chandelier. The super sleek Ludwig sideboard from Acerbis International is at home in quite a few places thanks to a wide variety of woods and finishes that give it a distinctly different appearance. In just one simple motion, the large front panel tilts down and retracts slightly, while part of the top rises to reveal the full contents of the sideboard with help from the "Dual-Flap" system. Inside, a double line of recessed lights illuminates the interior of a single and easily accessible large compartment, organized by two thin chrome-plated metal frames, clear glass shelves and drawers. The Acerbic lineage dates back to 1870 and is said to "have contributed to the birth and diffusion of the Italian furniture design" with a constant tension towards innovation and the use of new materials. Designer Renata Kalarus conspired with NOTI to give us this striking "Comma Chair" that apparently impressed the judged at the Red Dot Design Awards where it received Honorable Mention this year. I really like the profile of this modern chair that is available in leather or fabric over optional varnished steel or chrome legs from NOTI, a Polish design firm introduced by Ryszard Balcerkiewicz in 2005. Their collection including the Comma Chair is available from IQMatics of Chicago. $799

Nathan Mills calls his folded one piece dining table the Schlicht Table, I call it the "slick table". This bent wood concept takes the usual parts and combines the dining table and chairs into one well thought piece that would really work well in a modern interior décor, especially the vibrant colored ones. As you may expect Nathan Mills has an extensive resume of visual skills including 3D Modeling & CAD Real World Rendering. I am not sure when the Schlicht Table can be purchased, can any Furniture Fashion readers help me out!

One of the featured attractions at this year's SALONE INTERNAZIONALE DEL MOBILE in Milan will be the modern furniture collection of Bontempi Casa, definitely one of my favorites. The Barone and Barone Allungabile round and expandable dining tables shows their simple yet snazzy approach to modern furniture with a obvious Italian flair. To mix things up Bontempi offers the Barone dining tables in a variety of bases including leather wrapped, lacquered steel, or chrome with contrasting glass tops in various colors and finishes.
