I received an interesting submission that supports bathroom reading by allowing a place to store toilet paper and a magazine, catalog, or newspaper. The product is called "Read and Roll". For many of us, there would never be an admission of bathroom reading since there is a question about how sanitary a practice this is. Nonetheless, this activity goes on all around the world so if you want to embrace it, this product can be purchased for about $16 here.

This year's Furniture Fair in Milan, Italy once again proved to be a huge success, and the size of crowds even shocked some of the exhibitors. I talked with one of the top Italian manufacturer's representatives and they said over ten thousand people a day came to view their collection. Here are a few pictures from this years furniture fair also know as "Design Week" that give you a good look inside where well know names in furniture design and manufacturing worked together to create a simply stunning collection with a distinctly cutting edge look. Designers like Tord Boontje, Erwan & Ronan Bouroullec, Matali Crasset, and Jaime Hayon, and manufacturers including Established & Sons, Vitra, Moooi, and Moroso had their newest wares on display for retailers and reporters from around the world to see. Many of these pieces are as mainstream as items you already have in you home, and many are simply designer prototypes intended to expand the boundaries of interior design. Hope you enjoy.

The down side of more technology is its dependence on power and hence the need for unsightly cables. Power cables and data cables often stretch across the field of vision and detract from the natural beauty of a room. There are new ways to hide cables in both the kitchen and home office area. I bring up the kitchen area since there are so many small appliances that litter our countertops as well as the television and laptop that have found their way in there. These concealed examples of data and power outlets might give you some ideas as you build your home office or kitchen. The fact remains that we will continue to have electrical devices so why don't we plan for them. Pictures via: Mockett & Company.

I was looking through some information this morning and came across a nice image gallery on slate flooring. I had almost forgotten about his type of stone as a home design possibility. Slate gets lost behind wood, marble, and tile such as travertine. I would encourage you to take a look through the images. There are also some great ideas on driveways and walkways to add curb appeal to your home. Slate flooring is a viable option. Note: shoe not included. Image gallery: here.
