A few quality knives can go a long way towards making preparing meals much easier. The Wüsthof knife set pictured here features Santoku blades. Santoku is where there are hollowed out cavities in the blade of the knife. The engineering behind this design is a belief that less food sticks to the knife during food preparation due to the blade cavities. Though this is only a 2 piece set the size of the knives is a good choice. The big knife is optimum for cutting meat and hard vegetables whereas the smaller knife is great for cutting up softer vegetables and fruits. Price: $130. Buy product: here.

In a recent article, I talked about the power of cobalt blue cabinetry and the design statement it makes in a kitchen. Well not be outdone, are these red kitchen cabinets by Snaidero. The picture is not optimum as glossy red refracts light making capturing a quality image difficult. Most of us have seen the power of red and with a glossy finish the color really jumps of the wood! Red has been a popular color in libraries, studies, and dining rooms for several years. Here it moves to kitchen design which creates a very powerful theme. Can you imagine this cabinetry in your home? You can find the cobalt blue article at this location: blue kitchen cabinets. Product website: here.

Colors can do wonders for any room, but are usually softest in kitchen design. These cobalt blue kitchen cabinets create a striking kitchen that leave the wood stained, stainless steel, and white look behind. I enjoy finding more unique color examples as it serves to broaden our design horizons though it may not be right in our homes. Cobalt blue always makes me think of Fiesta Ware that came out in 1936 from the Homer Laughlin Pottery Company of Newell, West Virgina. Fiesta ware came out in five bold colors, with cobalt blue being one of the more popular. In these kitchen cabinets, the door handles are very large which make use of the drawers easy, and remind me of a commercial kitchen. Product website: here.

The Hand Decorated, fine bone china sugar bowl is part of designer Stefano Giovannoni's ongoing collaboration with the National Palace Museum in Taiwan that inspired him to explore traditional Chinese applied arts and develop his own contemporary interpretation which is known as the Orientales range.
