The AntiDiva display at the recent Salone Internazionale del Mobile featured the "Cut Sofa & Chair" that was created by Italian designer Domenico de Palo. This example of contemporary furniture design cuts substance down to a minimum. The minimal impact of the sofa and chair is overpowering when you consider that despite its minimal appearance, it can easily accommodate multiple guests for seating. Via.
The recent Salone Internazionale del Mobile (Milan Furniture Fair) held many intriguing pieces of furniture including the "Cairo Table" by anOtherArchitect of Berlin. The table is constructed in a mosaic or tessellated pattern with each piece contributing to the overall furniture design. The construction images show "work in progress" providing an idea of how the Cairo Table came together. Inspiration for the piece came from the city of Cairo and how it is divided by the Nile River. On either side of the river is a plateau. The theme is how something can become connected and then be disconnected like the plateaus on either side of the Nile. More information: here.
Andrej Statskij sent in this latest submission on a new project undertaken by his studio. "Green Tech" is a combination of technology and plants. In the designs acrylic or glass is paired with artificial or real plants to create an even form of furniture and plant. Since so many of us work at a desk or just on a computer, adding a bit of green in our surroundings is a terrific idea. You can learn more at his studio here.
Designer Phillip Grass sent us these awesome pictures of his latest furniture endeavor, the "Hai Speed Bench" which looks very fast even though they are standing still. It is a bit of a contradiction of terms as a bench is usually a place you stop to take a break. In this case Hai is German for shark which is more fitting to the sleek ultra modern design that features an inner core of wood surrounded by layers of bamboo fiber and epoxy resin for strength, and finished with automotive quality paint for water proofing and dramatic looks. Each of the six pieces that comprise the Hai bench series is made by hand and share similar characteristics one of which is healthy dose of super cool!! Visit phillipgrassgallery.com to see his entire collection of furniture as well as the rest of the Hai collection.
When it comes to furniture design its hard not to be a fan of Established & Sons. They have great contemporary designs that always stimulate interest while challenging the imagination. This video showcases their installation at Pelota at the Milan Furniture Fair. The video is cool as it shows how they built the showcase which later housed their furniture on display for the Milan event. The stand was built from Tullip wood supplied by the American Hardwood Export Council. Via.
