Breuer's Wassily Chair : A Classic for all Occasions

Having made it all the way from the early days of the modern furniture movement, the Wassily chair designed by Marcel Breuer in 1925 has surly graced just about every setting possible. Here is the mid-century classic in a mach up of the VERDIER solar powered light caravan that some of us may recognize as the VW bus gone hi-tech. If you are going to decorate in timeless furniture the Wassily chair is a staple that apparently works well as outdoor patio furniture. Two things that are sure to be popular in the future, alternate power sources and classic modern furniture.

Micama Modern Lounge Chair / DayBed from ANTIDIVA of Italy

In addition to their super clean ultra modern sofas ANTIDIVA of Italy also takes lounging to the next level with the "Micama" that fits into their Relax/Various categories. I can't say I have seen anything like it and it is certainly not for every one or every interior design scheme, but it sure looks comfortable. As you can see the Micama takes on radically different looks when displayed in the black alligator print and red vs. the much tamer monochromatic neutral. Personally I like the diversity of the design which allows the user to get comfortable in a variety of positions. If you like modern furniture then the new collection from ANTIDIVA is a must see.

Modern New Haven Side Table from Vallo Riberto

There is an interesting story behind the "New Haven" side table from designer Vallo Riberto. Riberto designed this art deco side table while attending the Yale Graduate School of Art and Architecture in 1968 but the design stayed dormant for almost 30 years. Finally in 1995 the New Haven side table was produced and is made today in two versions which include a dyed laminated over a plywood core or ¾ inch thick Baltic Birch. The New Haven is available in natural finishes or a variety of colors with exposed edges and finished with three layers of hand rubbed lacquer and hand wrought iron steel pin legs. This eye catching accent table really has a lot of character and will surely add some style to any room. 20W x 29H x 42.5L $1200 Ships Free in Continental US From

The Coolest and Most Contemporary Building Lobby Furniture

Pictured here is likely the coolest and most contemporary building lobby furniture design I have seen. This piece is called "Topolounge" and was created by Howeler-Yoon architecture firm. Though it is hard to tell from the limited information provided on the site, it appears that the mold has been created for chrome steel furniture. I think this can be pulled off since a person would likely not sit long in the lobby, thereby removing the need for the long-term comfort of the sitter. Inspiration is derived from the various positions a person could appear in from sitting to reclining. The forms, contours, and shapes of Topolounge create the mystique where the patron could be in all of these positions. The plans are for this cool furniture design to adorn a residential building lobby in Boston, Massachusetts. Source.
