COM.P.AR revealed their collection of Novelties at the Milan International Furniture Exhibition for 2008, and in true Italian fashion the looks were tastefully modern and eye catching. The Link 1 plasma tv stand shown here in lacquered white wood with side shelves, complete with stand bar for the screen offers a useful place for all you're A/V components. The Wind coffee table also available in white lacquer features a swooping swivel glass top that allows access for all within arms length. My favorite from the COM.P.AR 2008 collection is the Desy dining armchair that wraps nicely around its occupants for a very cozy feeling not usually associated with such a contemporary design. See the entire COM.P.AR collection as well as the rest of the Novelties here.

Designed by Stefano Bigi, Globus sparks the imagination about a futuristic living room. This furniture is constructed of fabric upholstery, wooden frame, and polyurethane foam. Functionally speaking, different shapes can be created by putting the pieces together as seen in the picture. The three pieces placed together give the sense of bench seating or a sofa without backrests. Likewise the polyurethane inserts can be taken out which can then be used as accent tables. I like the concept, but need to hold out for my own personal "comfort test". Via.

Here are some recent chair designs created by Matthias Demacker for Arrmet. Called the "Formula Chairs", these pieces were recently presented at the Salone del Mobile, which is the international furniture fair in Milan, Italy. I find the design to be striking in how it conforms where the seat meets the backrest. By appearance, the planes of these chairs have been cut out some to provide more support for the person sitting in the chair. Besides the support, the cut outs create a great visual detail about the chair.

For the past 60 years the Pianca family has dedicated their efforts to their collection of modern furniture made from quality materials, woods, and lacquer finishes with technological innovation. Their motto of "the combination of function and beauty" is also backed with a devotion to "pure design" and Italian pride. Here we see the Spazio wall unit that is perfect storage unit or as a tv stand / entertainment center. The Spazio unit can take on any look and can adapt to your space or requirements and even offers space saving wall mounted storage. Pianca used three matte colors combined with high gloss lacquer to accentuate the clean linear shapes that can be configured to your liking. Push pull drawers allow a front free of handles for and an uncluttered look. Take a look at the entire collection here.

I saw this striking photo today of a new movie cinema that is opening in Warsaw, Poland called the Multikino Złote Tarasy. As a fan of modern designer Eero Aarnio, I was stricken by the number of his famous Ball Chairs that appeared in the photo of the main lobby. I cannot recall seeing more than one of these at a time so seeing this group together was certainly a treat. I would not have put this collection together in my own mind, but I am glad that they did, because this is cool to look at. Via.
