Tom Faulkner combines metal and glass in this rectangular dining table. Strong influences for this piece are architectural themes that we see in buildings from around the world. Many designers often cite the influence of architecture upon their work. The angle of the legs and construction size of the metal speak to upholding the table by a powerful frame.
I really like the concept of the butterfly convertible sofa by GamplusFratesi. It looks so inviting for guests to sit on and yet is practical in the way it can be folded down to provide an extra bed. The clean white look, smooth lines and the metal legs give this contemporary classic a very organic look.
How about adding a new rug to spice up the look of the old place? Need some more color in your place? Modern Mats designed by Christopher Paul may have something for you. These fun loving floor mats are full of colors and designs. Made of canvas each mat is hand painted. The canvas is heavy strength since any flooring item takes a beating from shoes and feet. It is also nice that the mats can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. Each piece comes with a non-slip pad on the back to limit movement.
I found this picture of a design installation at a private residence in Amsterdam. Peter Marigold is the inspiration behind this project. A collection of wooden boards portrayed in contemporary shapes is a common theme in many of Peter's projects. Though the shapes depart from orthodox standards of rectangles and squares, they flow to form a beautiful piece of furniture. The boards that stick out from the unit help accent the natural shapes of the shelves. I found his choice of green to be particularly striking in this photo.
I really love the ultra modern style of the Malmo collection from Moroso of Italy. The long lines offer a very smooth and pleasing symmetry. Designed by Patricia Urquiola the collection includes sofas in three sizes, a chaise lounge and a very discrete and classic armchair. One version features leather on the front and fabric on the back, while another has a combination of two fabrics. A very sturdy construction allows the Malmo to be to be use as contract seating or in commercial environments. I'm sure it would look very at home in a residential setting as well.
