M 10-4 Bauhaus folding table by Erich Brendel

erich brendel bauhaus folding table
It's interesting to reflect on older pieces and see what their impact is on today's design. This table was designed by Erick Brendel at the Bauhaus art and architecture school in Weimar, Germany in 1924. The table rests on castor wheels comes with four flaps, adjustable, inside shelf and 2 insert plates. There are four additional foldable tops in the table. Redesigned by Tecta, colors range from natural, red, black to ash white.

Follia Chair by Guiseppe Terragni

Follia Chair by Terragni
I really love the Follia chair from Retro-modern. It looks like an end table with stainless steel attached that connects to a backrest. The contrast between black and stainless highlights differences and yet provides fluidity in style. This chair was created for the Casa del Fascio in 1934 by Italian designer Guiseppe Terragni. The Casa del Fascio is an office building in Como, Italy which opened in 1936 for which Terragni was the architect. Guiseppe used some of the same structural and plane concepts in design of the chair as he did in the office building. The chair retails for $1,910 at Retromodern.

Wishbone Chair
The wishbone chair by Carl Hansen and Sons got its name for obvious reasons.Designed by Hans Wegner a leader in Danish Modern furniture in1949, this classic has stood the test of time. The

Stackable Furniture with Form and Function

Stackable Chair
In a previous review I talked about a stackable furniture that were renditions of some very famous items from designers such as Eames, and Van der rohe. Here is a much more simple approach to a very important necessity, a place to sit.For those who never appear to have enough seats for their guests, this great-looking, stackable and versatile stool will make a welcome addition. Originally designed by Ruud Jan Kokke for guided tours in museums , this sturdy stool can also be used as a side-table or design piece.Exhibited in the N.Y Museum Of Modern Art no less.Dseigned by Designum and made of birch composite, this versitle beauty will only set you back $240.00.

Marcel Breuer's Wassily Chair

Marcel breuer Wassily Chair mid-century modern arm chair.gif
One of my favorite pieces of furniture is the Wassliy Chair by Marcel Breuer, probably for its clean lines and creative design. I am a minimalist, and this chair lends it's self well to an environment that is simple and streamline.

Marcel Breuer was an apprentice at the Bauhaus in 1925 when he conceived the first tubular steel chair, the Wassily chair, based on the tubed frame of a bicycle. Knoll is the only authorized and licensed manufacturer of the Wassily chair. Marcel Breuer's signature is stamped into the base of the frame and every chair has an individual identification number to verify authenticity. If it does not display the Knoll logo type and bear Marcel Breuer's signature, it is a counterfeit.

Protégé of Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius, Marcel Breuer embodied many of the School's distinctive concepts and was one of the School's most famous students. He returned to teach carpentry from 1925-1928, during which he designed the tubular-steel furniture collection. His attention drifted towards architecture, and after practicing privately, he worked as a professor at Harvard's School of Design under Gropius. Breuer was also honored as the first architect to be the sole artist of an exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
