Dutch designer Bauke Knottnerus presents a unique joining of art in furniture in his work, "PHAT KNITS". On first glance it appears to be designed as furniture for seating, but upon further inspection you can see its resemblance to oversized knitted pieces. The intent was to shape textiles through the use of PVC needles as part of a material design. It has been lauded by observers as furniture in some cases and others as decorative art. We look forward to more exhibits from the Design Academy Eindhoven graduate. Via 3Rings and Bauke Knotterus.

"Saruyama" is interesting polyurethane foam furniture that was designed by Toshiyuki Kita. It consists of three pieces of furniture that when placed together form a near circle. The furniture set can also be split apart creating three different seating areas that each have matching upholstery which make them tie nicely in a room. The concept for Saruyama is ultra contemporary with each piece having its own unique seating elements. Find Saruyama: here.

The Dekka Daybed is not what you may envision when you think about a typical daybed, rather a modern interpretation that features minimal construction and the combining of Danish Modern design and the Arabic Culture. Originally designed by FurnID for a design competition the Dekka Daybed is now produced by Fredericia Furniture in which a solid aluminum frame is meticulously hewn from single piece in a 40 hour process and then upholstered by hand, the perfect combination of new and old world craftsmanship. This interesting home furniture collection comes from Hayon Studio. The collection has somewhat of a whimsical feel from its overall shape and appearance. Perhaps, that is due to the fact that these pieces are based on classical MGM musicals. My favorite is the high-back chair in the way that shape creates a back canopy to the chair. You can see the rest of the collection: here.
