The trick to making a convertible sleeper sofa desirable is not having it look like a sleeper sofa. Most of the models out there give indication of their abilities if not visually, definitely when you sit down on the fold out steel mechanism. The Cosma sleeper sofa "is simply unusually elegant seating furniture of exciting design upon which one may either sit or sleep well." You can see the visual appeal of the Cosma, but you can't see the thin wooden slat system that also allows comfortable seating which every sofa should have. The award winning design team of Sefer Caglar and Seyhan Ozdemir make up the creative minds of Turkish furniture manufacturer Autoban. The collection which has been described as "quirky" includes playful interpretations of everyday items that are best summarized as "emotionally expressive, visually inspiring objects with a timeless pleasure-to-live-with quality." A fine example of their work is the Box Sofa that has a sleek retro quality encased in a rich wood frame on high delicate legs. What do you notice about this sofa, love seat and recliner that make it different from what you may be used to seeing? All of the Fjords by Hjellegjerde items were designed for a unique purpose and making them identical is not the main focus, comfort is. The recliner swivels and has a self adjusting active headrest and separate forward tilting ottoman to allow full support in all positions. The love seat has two individually reclining seats with high back support, perfect for movie watching and book reading. Finally the sofa has three individually reclining low back seats that easily slip into the desired position with out levers of adjustments necessary. Designer and architect Zaha Hadid is no stranger to trend setting styles that incorporate radical shape and vision, and here is one of my favorites. The "Moon System" from B & B Italia is like nothing I have ever seen, possessing the complexity of curved geometry and a one piece look as if it were carved from a single element. Unlike most sofas that rely on conventional ideals and shapes, the Moon System sofa has no two sides or angles that are repeated, keeping the view fresh from all view points. I particularly like the way the ottoman can be incorporated within the shape of the sofa if so desired adding to its uniqueness. Price: Sofa $12,460; Ottoman $1,749.
