If you get tired of staring at a blank wall then it may be time to put some sort of décor on it. Wall shelves can fill in space of a wall and at the same time, give you a chance to store a few items. Other decorators use wall shelves to highlight a few accent pieces that can bring color to a room or highlight an individual's unique tastes. Ikea is such a large store that there is so much to take in! That is why I put together 5 wall shelf ideas that can be found from Ikea.

These wall shelves inspire me about the possibilities of dressing up a room. Russian designer Maria Yasko created this installation. In her vision, wall shelves become blended into the room creating decorative wall art. Her motif is nature as evidenced by the leaves and branches. This is a great idea if you are looking to spruce up a wall and create an overall room theme. More information: Maria Yasko. Via.

The first thing I look for in furniture bookshelves is the overall design of the piece and how it might work inside a home. In today's market, there seems to be less and less bookshelves to choose from as furniture stores have converted that "floor space" for other products. The design pictured here was created during the mid-century era by Marcel Breuer. The furniture bookshelves feature four shelves attached to a tubular steel frame. This is an open concept as opposed to a close-ended example where the shelves are surrounded by a wood frame. By being open, you could put a TV on the top and use this as an entertainment center as well. Price: $2,660. Product link: here.

Designer Rick Ivey has shaped metal into contemporary bookcases featuring interesting shapes with a tower-like design. Each shelf has its own cubby-hole for book storage. This is more of a decorative piece than a unit that can store a lot of books should you have a large collection. The effect creates a cool visual to draw the attention of guests in the home. These contemporary bookcases come in black, white, and rust colors. Each piece is $750 and can be purchased here.

Joel Escalona Studio's latest release is furniture bookcases that stimulate the imagination. Called "MYDNA", these pieces take their influence from that of the DNA strand. Going way back to Biology we can remember that DNA is a double helix where the strands naturally twist as part of their shape. The furniture bookcases follow this design shape and as a result, create an intriguing piece of home décor. The bookcases are currently looking for a manufacturer to pick up production. I hope that these pieces go into production as I like the design. Information: here. Via.
