Alexander Munk from Germany has created this interesting storage system for books and magazines. This design is called "Span". Interestingly enough, Span expands as more books are added to the storage system. This clever design can control the amount of space used by the system by contracting to the width of the books. Via.

The Java bookcase is a simple addition for a dorm room to allow a student to store textbooks. A neat feature is that Java is foldable, thus making transporting this piece very easy. The entire bookcase can be folded flat when not in use. When put together, the three shelves at 28 inches wide should offer a lot of storage for the student with a heavy workload. Another feature allows for two bookshelves to be stacked on top of one another. There are some connecting pegs that help provide stability to the overall structure when two are joined together. Measurements: 28" x 11-1/2" x 37" h. Price: $79. Available: here.

It is amazing how fast toys can be scattered all over a children's room in a matter of minutes. The "pick-up time" is often slower than the "pull-out time". A big question from parents is how to best organize and store toys. The Elfa storage solution for toys is money well spent. I have used other Elfa products with great success and have been pleased with their durability, ease of use, and appearance. In this package there are different size totes, see through totes, mesh totes, and other forms in which to store the toys. This is a great feature of Elfa where you can design what works best for your kid's room and fits the space accordingly. Also, you can easily change out parts later if you decide that you need more of one tote than another. The kit featured here retails for $330, but as mentioned before you may choose to customize the different parts of the system. More information: here.

The conceal bookshelf is a clever idea where a shelf is installed into the wall. The bottom book is affixed to the protruding shelf which creates a stable base upon which to stack other books. This is a great idea for a dorm room where space is at a premium. Textbooks while not in use can be stored away on the bookshelf and appear to "float in air". The maximum weight allowed is 20 lbs. Price: $12.99. More information: here.

This modern bookshelf is called Quetza and draws its inspiration from Aztec history. The stair-step design marches up the wall much like the steps of a pyramid. The tight lines between the wood create a visual imagery that is cathes the eye. Pictured in a vertical pose, these bookshelves would have a different look installed horizontally on a wall. Via.
